Romney's Dad Proves that Birtherism = Racism

Gov. George W. Romney (Mitt Romney's father)

I don't understand why the media isn't pointing this out regularly and loudly (in fact I have never heard it even mentioned) but George Romney (Mitt Romney's father) proves that Birther Republicans are racist. George Romney ran for president in 1968 and was readily accepted as a legitimate candidate by the Republican Party knowing full well that he was born in Mexico.

This proves Birtherism is racist. Think about it, Republicans accept a white conservative born in Mexico but tell a black man born in Honolulu that he should "go back to Kenya". Don't bother claiming that there are "legitimate concerns" about whether he was born in Kenya. Those concerns are based on nothing but fabricated rumors and have been disproved repeatedly. He was born in America as proved by birth announcements in Honolulu papers, his "short form" birth certificate, his "long form"  birth certificate, the paperwork filled out in his early life listing Honolulu as his birthplace, as well as the recollections of various people.

Frankly, if I was asked to provide evidence that I was born in America I would be unable to supply any more evidence than that, and so would most every natural born American citizen (actually I think many people would have difficulty providing even that much).

Birther claims have all been thoroughly debunked:

More importantly to the Birtherism issue, Section 1 of Article 2 of the United States Constitution does NOT require that a person be born in the United States. It CLEARLY only requires that a person be born a US citizen. It only excludes a person who was not a U.S. citizen by birth or at birth, a person under the age of 35, or a person who has lived in the USA less than a total of 14 year.

Here is how the Constitution sets forth the eligibility requirements for serving as president of the United States:
  • No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

As  recently as 2011 the Congressional Research Service issued its findings that:
  • "The weight of legal and historical authority indicates that the term "natural born" citizen would mean a person who is entitled to U.S. citizenship "by birth" or "at birth", either by being born "in" the United States and under its jurisdiction, even those born to alien parents; by being born abroad to U.S. citizen-parents; or by being born in other situations meeting legal requirements for U.S. citizenship "at birth". Such term, however, would not include a person who was not a U.S. citizen by birth or at birth, and who was thus born an "alien" required to go through the legal process of "naturalization" to become a U.S. citizen" - "Qualifications for President and the 'Natural Born' Citizenship Eligibility Requirement". Congressional Research Service report. Federation of American Scientists. November 14, 2011. p. 2.

If one parent is a U.S. citizen and is married to another parent that is not, the child is a citizen if the U.S. citizen parent has been "physically present" in the U.S. before the child's birth for a total period of at least five years, and at least two of those five years were after the U.S. citizen parent's fourteenth birthday.

It has been claimed that Ann Dunham's marriage to Barack Obama Sr. wasn't legal. However, this is not relevant because:

"A children born abroad after December 24, 1952 to unmarried American mothers are U.S. citizens, as long as the mother has lived in the U.S. for a continuous period of at least one year at any time prior to the birth."

The fact that George Romney was born in Mexico proves that Obama's place of birth isn't REALLY a concern to Republicans. They're happy to accept you as president even if you are born outside the USA as long as you are WHITE
